VET Student outcomes – Top 100 Courses report

This is the first report from the VET National Data Asset (VNDA) published in November 2023. This release focused on the economic, employment and further study outcomes of Vocational Education and Training (VET) students who completed a course in the 2018-19 financial year. Outcomes were published for the top 100 courses with the most completions, along with national level outcomes for females, First Nations students and students with disability. The report shows that VET is delivering multiple economic and employment opportunities for students who completed their courses. The benefits include an uplift in employment rates and median income across all cohorts, as well as a transition to further study at a higher level. Australian Labour Market for Migrants - October 2023

The Australian Labour Market for Migrants report provides information on Australian labour market conditions. It is intended to inform people interested in working in Australia on a temporary or permanent basis, and to organisations providing services to migrants and visa applicants. The report notes that while labour market conditions in Australia were strong over 2022-23: some economic indicators suggest the Australian labour market is softening and will likely experience subdued conditions over the period ahead employment opportunities and growth varied widely across industries. The Hot Topic analyses survey data on the medium-term labour market outcomes of both international and domestic graduates of Australian higher education institutions. Key findings include: three years after graduating, 70.0% of domestic and 60.5% of international graduates worked as Professionals the study areas with the highest international graduate employment rates related to Health Care and Social Assistance the employment rate of international graduates was 3.7 percentage points lower than the rate for domestic graduates international graduates were more likely than domestic graduates to perceive themselves as being over-qualified for their job at the time of the survey.

Skills Priority List Key Findings Report 2023

The Skills Priority List (SPL), produced by Jobs and Skills Australia, provides a detailed view of occupations in shortage and the anticipated future demand for occupations in Australia. The SPL is released annually as a point-in-time assessment of the labour market and serves as a valuable tool that can inform policymakers towards aligning policies and strategies with the current demand of the labour market. The Key Findings Report highlights: 36% of occupations assessed are in shortage occupations with a strong gender imbalance were more likely to be in shortage Technicians and Trade Workers, and Professional occupations have the highest shortages particularly in regional and remote areas.

Towards a National Jobs and Skills Roadmap

This inaugural Jobs and Skills Report 2023 provides an initial assessment of the national skills system and Australia’s current, emerging, and future skills needs. The analysis in the Report provides a strong evidentiary foundation for a national jobs and skills roadmap to be developed over the coming year and beyond. This will be done in collaboration with industry, Jobs and Skills Councils, the education and training sectors, states and territories, and Australian Government agencies. The Clean Energy Generation

The Australian Government commissioned Jobs and Skills Australia to undertake a capacity study on the workforce needs for Australia’s transition to a clean energy economy. This study provides critical evidence and insights to support the workforce planning, policy development and program design needed to build a strong and vibrant clean energy sector. The study’s terms of reference and discussion paper are also available on the Jobs and Skills Australia website. The final report for this study is titled The Clean Energy Generation: workforce needs for a net zero economy. The report, published on 3 October 2023, includes 50 recommendations aimed at ensuring Australia has the skills and workforce required to meet our clean energy ambitions. The report includes a holistic analysis of the existing and future needs of the clean energy workforce, training and education pathways, and opportunities to transform existing sectors through decarbonisation. Jobs and Skills Australia thanks the many stakeholders that contributed to this report, including our project steering group with members from across industry, unions, training providers, state governments, research organisations and the Commonwealth.

International Labour Market Update - September 2023

The International Labour Market Update provides key labour market data for Australia and selected overseas countries and country groups. The report also includes current and emerging global skill shortages. The publication notes: labour supply and skill shortages are high across the global economy while most countries have seen a recovery in GDP growth since the pandemic, growth has slowed for most advanced economies in 2023 job vacancies have grown significantly beyond pre-COVID levels for Australia and other English speaking countries. While vacancies are beginning to taper off in 2023, they remain at substantially higher levels for Australia and the United States.

Skills Shortage Quarterly – June 2023

The Skills Shortage Quarterly presents quarterly analysis on occupation shortage pressures. Data underpinning the analysis is drawn from the Survey of Employers who Recently Advertised. Key findings in the June 2023 quarter report are: fill rates for occupations decreased more qualified applicants were found unsuitable by employers for vacancies current competition among employers for skilled workers has potentially been more fierce in current times than during the mining boom. The report also examines employer behaviour in periods of labour market tightness.
