Recruitment activity falls while recruitment difficulty rises in August

The Recruitment Experiences and Outlook Survey (REOS) Recruitment Insights Report for August 2024 was released today.

The recruitment rate eased by 1 percentage point in August 2024, with 43% of employers recruiting. Recruitment rates were higher in Rest of State areas (45%, down 5 percentage points from last month), compared with 42% for employers in Capital Cities (up 1 percentage point).

Recruitment difficulty increased by 3 percentage points this month to 50% of recruiting employers. The recruitment difficulty rate is currently 25 percentage points below July 2022’s record high of 75%, it is also currently 11 percentage points less than in August last year.

In August, employers’ optimism about future staffing levels rose, with the proportion of employers expecting to increase staff numbers in the next three months increasing to 22%.

There was an increase in the proportion of employers whose vacancies remained unfilled after a month of recruiting, up by 3 percentage points to 45%.
