The first releases from the new JSA Insights series are out now. The new series will offer timely, concise analysis on topics that matter most, beginning with two reports on disability inclusion in the workforce.
The findings from ‘Employer attitudes toward disability inclusion in the Australian workforce’ and ‘Employment and disability in Australia’ show people with disability continue to face poorer employment outcomes than those without disability. They also reveal a large cohort of people with disability (260,000 people) who are ready and willing to work, but face barriers such as limited suitable jobs, transport challenges, and a lack of workplace adjustments.
Around one third of employers, mainly larger or city-based businesses, have recently hired someone with disability. Employer feedback highlights growing openness to inclusive hiring, yet concerns about job suitability, safety and productivity remain. Many employers already use simple, low-cost adjustments like flexible work, job redesign and workstation changes to address some of the challenges.
These insights will shape JSA’s multi-year, co designed research programs for people with disability, with expanded work to begin in 2026.
