Jobs and Skills Australia’s latest Internet Vacancy Index Report shows that Australia’s job market recorded a 2.7% increase in online job ads last month (seasonally adjusted). Advertisements increased across most major occupation groups, with Labourers and Sales Workers seeing the strongest increase. Victoria and Tasmania experienced the strongest increase in job ads.
Job ad numbers decreased compared with the same time last year. While capital cities continued to record declines, regional Australia saw an increase over the year.
Leading from the middle: sustained demand for Retail Supervisors
Retail Supervisors remain in strong demand across Australia, with both job advertisements and employment growing, particularly in regional areas. The role provides an accessible pathway into leadership, allowing workers to demonstrate valuable and transferable skills while supporting frontline staff and customer service operations.
The occupation also serves as an important stepping stone to management and other career opportunities. As retail workplaces become more complex due to technology, workforce challenges, and customer safety concerns, Retail Supervisors are expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting both business performance and employee wellbeing.
