The latest Regional Labour Market Indicator Results show strong performance in major cities, with two-thirds of metropolitan regions rated 'strong' or 'above average' in September 2025. Greater Adelaide stands out as a success story, maintaining robust conditions despite some local challenges.
While regional and remote areas face ongoing hurdles, these findings highlight opportunities for targeted support and investment to help these communities thrive. Almost half of regional areas were rated ‘below average’ or ‘poor’, and all remote regions fell into these categories, underscoring where efforts can make the biggest impact.
The report also points to exciting trends in technology. JSA’s Gen AI Capacity Study shows that exposure to generative AI is highest in stronger-performing city labour markets.
With cities setting the pace and regional areas identified for focused development, Australia is well-positioned to build a more balanced and resilient labour market.
