Migration Strategy

On 11 December 2023 the Australian Government released the Migration Strategy which provides the roadmap for reform of Australia’s migration system.

This Migration Strategy recognises the importance of a longer term evidence-based approach to planning migration that closely collaborates with the states and territories and is driven by the advice of Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA).

The Migration Strategy notes that transparency will be a guiding principle of JSA’s role in the migration system, and that JSA will submit its findings to Government and publish its analysis and recommendations.

    2025 Skills in Demand

This report is presented in response to the Australian Government’s Migration Strategy which noted that JSA will provide input to the design and delivery of a targeted migration system, including through analysis on the labour market impact of the three streams of the temporary Skills in Demand (SID) visa program.

In line with the objectives of the Migration Strategy, the introduction of the SID visa, in combination with indexed salary thresholds, has had a strong positive impact on nominated salaries for primary SID visa applicants; and the SID visa is helping to address shortages for some skilled occupations in the Australian labour market.
