VET pathways leading employment growth

Over the past year, employment growth has been strongest in jobs that typically require post-secondary qualifications. More than two-thirds of new jobs were in occupations linked to Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways, highlighting the growing value of practical, skills-based training.

The March 2025 Labour Market Update also reveals that generally, Australia’s labour market remains relatively tight, but conditions have eased over the March quarter. Indicators suggest this softening is likely to continue in the coming months, with added uncertainty from global factors such as the final scope of U.S. tariffs, which are likely to weigh heavily on international trade and investment. 

Online job advertisements have declined, and employers are filling more of their vacancies. This shift suggests that while the demand for workers remains solid, the pressure is not as intense as it was in previous quarters.
