Following the announcement by Minister for Skills and Training, the Hon Brendan O'Connor MP, on 10 February 2024, we are pleased to welcome the appointment of the new Jobs and Skills Commissioner, Professor Barney Glover AO, who will commence his five-year term in April 2024.

Professor Glover's extensive expertise in university management and business leadership will greatly benefit JSA's mandate to address Australia's workforce skills and training needs.

He will become the first substantive Commissioner under JSA's amended legislation, passed last year.

We extend sincere thanks to Professor Peter Dawkins AO and David Turvey who has been acting in the role since Professor Dawkins' departure, for their leadership during JSA's formation. They have played a central role in guiding the organisation through its establishment phase, positioning Jobs and Skills Australia for future success and growth.

Together, Mr Turvey and Professor Dawkins oversaw the delivery of several strategic products, including Jobs and Skills Australia's first workforce capacity study, the Clean Energy Generation: workforce needs for a net zero economy, the commencement of the Foundation Skills Study, and the inaugural Jobs and Skills Report: Towards a national jobs and skills roadmap.

As Professor Glover AO assumes the role of Commissioner, JSA will continue to build its credibility and deliver independent, expert advice on Australia's current, emerging and future workforce and skills. Informed by deep tripartite engagement and partnerships.

We look forward to working with Professor Barney Glover AO and we welcome his experience as we continue to deliver expert advice and research on Australia's workforce and skill needs.
