Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services saw the fastest employment growth of any industry in Australia, according to JSA’s latest Labour Force Trending (LFT) data. Employment in this industry increased by 8.3% and added 15,800 jobs over the past year, reflecting the accelerating shift toward electrification.
Over the past year, Professional occupations recorded the strongest increase in employment – growing by 4.7%, contributing 177,400 new jobs. These positions now represent 27% of Australia's workforce, highlighting their vital role in a modern, knowledge-based economy.
The growing demand for advanced, skills-based education has also been highlighted, with more than 75% of the total employment growth over the past year occurring in Skill Level 1 roles, which typically require a Bachelor degree or higher.
LFT data tracks employment shifts across industries and occupations over the past year, five years and decade. It complements sources like the Internet Vacancy Index and Employment Projections, helping businesses, policymakers and researchers understand current and future job trends.
