The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations is seeking applications for the role of the Jobs and Skills Australia Commissioner.
The Jobs and Skills Australia Amendment Bill 2023 (the Bill), introduced to Parliament on 22 March 2023, proposes ongoing functions and governance that will ensure JSA is a trusted source of advice on skills, training and labour market needs. The Bill proposes to create this new statutory office of Jobs and Skills Australia Commissioner to lead the agency. This position is subject to the passage of the Bill.
The Commissioner will report directly to the Australian Government Minister for Skills and Training and will be a trusted, independent source of expert advice and information to government on Australia’s current and future skills needs, with an economy-wide focus including the vocational education and training and higher education sectors. The Commissioner will lead Jobs and Skills Australia’s work on researching workforce trends, skills and workforce needs; conducting workforce capacity and cohort studies; collaboration with industries, employee and employer groups, and states and territories; and implementation of annual work plans.
