Total New Vacancies (TNV)

On this page

May 2026 data were released on 27 August 2026. Please note the data structure in the .xlsx file has changed.

The Total New Vacancies (TNV) series offers a broader picture of recruitment activity across the country, going beyond online ads to capture the full breadth of hiring activity.

It combines data from both the Internet Vacancy Index and the Recruitment Experiences and Outlook Survey to offer insights into hiring activity beyond online job ads.

By adjusting for changes in recruitment methods over time, TNV provides a clearer picture of new job opportunities and labour market trends.

    The data:

    • supports regional job plans and place-based initiatives
    • provides sector insights for policy development
    • improves understanding of workforce trends beyond online ads.

For more information on how the TNV data works, download the Methodology.

    The TNV is published quarterly.

    Caveats

Jobs and Skills Australia welcomes feedback on the TNV series. Users should exercise caution when interpreting TNV data and are encouraged to make comparisons on an annual basis rather than quarter-to-quarter, as shorter timeframes can be subject to volatility.
