Recruitment activity declined in July, with the national recruitment rate falling to 44%, down 7 percentage points over the month and 6 percentage points over the year.
Recruitment difficulty also eased slightly, with 43% of employers reporting difficulty recruiting, while 17% expected to increase their staff in the next three months.
While overall recruitment pressures eased slightly nationally, the latest spotlight highlights that challenges remain uneven across the labour market, particularly for higher-skilled occupations, where pressures vary by occupation and location.
Recruitment challenges can be more pronounced in regional and remote areas, where access to skilled workers, training, housing and supporting infrastructure can be more limited.
Employers can also face challenges finding workers with the right qualifications, skills and experience, alongside issues relating to job design and attractiveness and the long-term sustainability of workforces.
The findings highlight the importance of considering both occupation and location when understanding recruitment pressures and developing strategies to build Australia’s higher-skilled workforce.
