REOS Spotlight: Hiring activity increases, as recruitment difficulty continues to ease

Employer recruitment activity increased over the year to the December quarter 2025, with new findings showing improvements to hiring conditions across the labour market.

According to the latest REOS Spotlight, the recruitment rate increased to 46%, 3 percentage points higher than a year ago. A decrease in recruitment difficulty was also recorded, falling by nine percentage points to 41% over the same period.

These results reflect the national trends highlighted in our recent Recruitment Insights Report, which show recruitment activity remaining resilient, while recruitment difficulty continuing to decrease.

Across the states, Queensland continues to record the highest recruitment rate at 58%. Victorian employers reported the least difficulty recruiting, while employers in the Northern Territory remained the most likely to be seeking workers.

At an industry level, Accommodation and Food Services recorded the highest recruitment rate at 72%, highlighting continued high demand for workers across hospitality and food service businesses.

At an occupational level, Technicians and Trades Workers recorded the highest rate of recruitment difficulty at 60%, indicating ongoing challenges filling key trade and technical roles.
