Job ads up 4.5% nationally in April 2025
Australia’s job market saw a 4.5% increase in online job advertisements last month (seasonally adjusted). Job ads increased across all Major Occupation groups, with Professionals seeing the strongest increase. Increases were also recorded across all skill levels, and states and territories.
While job ads remain elevated historically, job advertisement numbers dropped by 9.5% over the year. The decrease was slightly stronger in capital cities than regional Australia.
Bringing Care Home: Softening demand for Aged and Disabled Carers may not signal easing workforce pressures
This month, we consider the labour market for Aged and Disabled Carers. Aged and Disabled Carers provide indispensable support services that help more than a million Australians maintain their health, independence and safety at home and in their community.
Internet Vacancy Index results suggest recent easing in demand for Aged and Disabled Carers, however job advertisement numbers remain high relative to historical results, particularly outside capital cities. With robust growth evident in employment trend data over recent years and persistent occupation shortages, softening in demand for Aged and Disabled Carers may not signal substantial easing in workforce pressures. Significant work is underway, across systemic and specific dimensions of the sector, with potential to improve labour market conditions.
