Congratulations to David Turvey PSM!

David Turvey, Executive Director at Jobs and Skills Australia, has been awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) in recognition of his outstanding public service in establishing the National Skills Commission and subsequently the formation of Jobs and Skills Australia. The PSM is one of the highest honours in the Australian Public Service, recognising individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation and unwavering commitment to public service. 

With a public service career spanning more than 30 years, David currently oversees the operations of Jobs and Skills Australia. His role involves providing strategic guidance on the agency’s work program, technical oversight of analytical outputs, stakeholder engagement, and corporate management functions. 

Over the course of his career, David has held senior executive roles at several Australian Government agencies, including the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, and the Australian Treasury, and worked internationally as an economist with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Much of his work has focused on labour market policy, vocational education and training policy, fiscal policy, and public debt management. 

David holds a Master of Economics from the Australian National University and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He has also served on audit committees across a number of Australian Government entities and as Treasurer of a number of not-for-profit community organisation in the ACT. 

Colleagues describe David as a considered, collaborative and deeply committed to the integrity of public policy. He is widely regarded for his ability to bring clarity to complex issues and support others in delivering work of lasting value. His work has informed policy initiatives focused on improving workforce access, skills development and long-term economic participation. 

This recognition reflects not only David’s individual achievements but also his contribution to the wider purpose of Jobs and Skills Australia. Through his leadership and policy expertise, he has supported efforts to activate the potential of all individuals to meet present and future skills needs, while contributing to the development of a more inclusive labour market and a productive economy.
