Jobs and Skills Australia has released a new Insights paper on the important role employers play in supporting lifelong learning and workforce capability.
The paper explores how employer investment in learning can:
- help workers develop skills throughout their careers
- support a more productive and adaptable workforce
- create more opportunities for people to apply and grow their skills at work.
As technology, demographic change and shifts in the economy reshape Australia’s labour market, employer-supported learning is becoming increasingly important.
The paper finds that work-related learning is often:
- supported by employers
- delivered during work hours
- made up of formal, unaccredited and informal learning.
It also shows that quality, relevance and practical application matter more than the amount of training delivered.
The paper also identifies opportunities to strengthen the evidence base on employer investment in learning, helping to support future policy development and ongoing monitoring of Australia’s skills system.
