Job ads nudge up, but longer-term trend still down in October 2025

Australia saw a small rise in online job ads last month, with October 2025 figures up 0.2%, an extra 350 listings, bringing the total to 208,000. While this is a slight increase, job ads are still down 7.3% compared to the same time last year.

Despite the dip, job ads remain higher than pre-pandemic levels, sitting about 21% above the 2019 monthly average.

The Northern Territory led the way in October with a 3.3% jump in ads, while the ACT saw the biggest drop, down 11.2%.

Jobs typically requiring mid-level qualifications (Skill Level 3), such as many trades and technical roles, saw the biggest boost, rising 1.8%. Meanwhile, ads for high-skilled roles (Skill Level 1), including most professional occupations, fell by 0.9%.

Most job ads, over 70%, were in capital cities, although both metro and regional areas have seen fewer listings over the past year.
