Australia’s job market recorded a 3.2% increase in online job ads last month (seasonally adjusted). Advertisements increased across most major occupation groups, with Managers, and Professionals seeing the strongest increase. The Australian Capital Territory experienced the strongest increase in job ads.
Job ads were down 0.8% over the past year. The drop was more pronounced in capital cities than in regional areas.
2025 year in review: persistent pressure beneath easing indicators
In this month’s report Jobs and Skills Australia is reviewing some of the most popular topics covered in the Vacancy Report over 2025 to provide updated analysis. Returning to the analysis of labour demand conditions for Psychiatrists and Aged and Disabled Carers, key data trends from the latter portions of 2025 are noted. Also explored are the indications of normalisation of job-advertisement-to-employment ratios and the continuing prevalence of multiple job holding.
Underlying these analyses are questions about the sustainability and well-being risks associated with multiple job holding and the structural challenges for Australia’s regional workforce in these occupations.
