Enhanced data reveals labour market strength in parts of regional Australia

The June 2025 Regional Labour Market Indicator (RLMI) presents the latest results on labour market performance across Australia’s regions.

This quarter, we see considerable labour market strength in parts of regional Australia, including in regional Queensland and southern New South Wales. However, many regional and remote areas are more likely to experience weaker labour market conditions than their major city counterparts.

Regional Queensland’s improved market conditions

Of the improved labour market conditions in regional Australia, labour market conditions improved in a cluster of regional areas over the last year. These included:

  • Central Queensland and Darling Downs – Maranoa SA4 regions – rated ‘above average’, up from ‘average’ a year ago
  • Toowoomba and the Richmond – Tweed SA4 regions – rated ‘average’, up from ‘below average’ 12-months prior.
