Workplace Relations Advisers assist in resolving disputes by advising on workplace relations policies and problems, and representing industrial, commercial, union, employer or other parties in negotiations on rates of pay and conditions of employment.

Tasks

Maintains personnel records and associated human resource information systems
Arranges the induction of staff and provides information on conditions of service, salaries and promotional opportunities
Receives and records job vacancy information from employers such as details about job description, wages and conditions of employment
Studies and interprets legislation, awards, collective agreements and employment contracts, wage payment systems and dispute settlement procedures
Develops, plans and formulates enterprise agreements or collective contracts such as productivity-based wage adjustment procedures, workplace relations policies and programmes, and procedures for their implementation
Oversees the formation and conduct of workplace consultative committees and employee participation initiatives

Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations

Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) is the skill-based classification system used to categorise occupations in the Australian and New Zealand labour markets. ANZSCO provides a basis for the standardised collection, analysis and dissemination of occupation data. Visit the ABS website to learn how ANZSCO works. Jobs and Skills Australia displays data for occupations that are defined by ANZSCO 2013 Version 1.3.

The ABS has temporarily suspend publishing Labour Force Survey occupation data while they make changes to the way they conduct the survey.

When they recommence publishing occupation data it will be based on the new Occupation Standard Classification of Australia (OSCA) basis.

This is the median pay for full–time non–managerial employees paid at the adult rate before tax and salary sacrificed amounts. The full–time non–managerial employees paid at the adult rate population has been used because it excludes people paid unusually high or low amounts (for example managers, part–time employees and youths). This allows for more accurate comparison between occupations. These figures are a guide only and should not be used to determine a wage rate as they do not take into account years of experience or other factors may influence a person’s wage.

ANZSCO 6–digit occupations.
Senior Non-Commissioned Defence Force Officers (1392) and Defence Force Members - Other Ranks (4411).
ANZSCO 4–digit occupations where there is a relative standard error of 25% or higher.

As our occupation profiles are based on the ABS Labour Force Survey and Census data, we are reliant on the ABS releasing these coded to OSCA. It is our understanding that ABS will commence using the OSCA classification for Labour Force Survey data in 2026.
